BEIJING, May 23 (Itar-Tass) - The chief of the Rosatom state corporation, Sergei Kiriyenko, said on Friday during the current visit of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to China the countries would conclude an agreement to the tune of more than one billion dollars on the construction of an uranium enrichment plant and Russia’s low-enriched uranium deliveries to China for the next ten years.
“An agreement that will be concluded today envisages the construction of an gas centrifuge uranium enrichment plant in China and Russia’s low-enriched uranium deliveries to China will cost more than one billion dollars,” Kiriyenko. “Tekhsnabexport will conclude a contract on part of Russia. This is a basic agreement that rules out the competition,” he said.
Kiriyenko emphasized that the contract for the construction of the fourth line of the plant has already been concluded. The agreement will be officially signed on Friday in the attendance of the presidents. “This agreement is of systemic nature, as it envisages the construction of an uranium enrichment plant and long-term contracts on Russia’s low-enriched uranium deliveries for the next ten years,” he said.
Kiriyenko added that this agreement would promote the development of Russian enterprises, “which can produce more.” “This is an important experience for us, as we had ample capacities in the country in the past few years, but we have not built complete uranium enrichment plants yet. It is an interesting project in terms of engineering – to build a modern uranium enrichment plant from scratch,” Kiriyenko said.
