Police in Poland have arrested a man - believed to be from the Middle East - who held three Brazilian Jewish youths hostage in a Warsaw hotel room.

Police stormed the sixth-floor room after the man - reportedly drunk - had locked himself inside with the three youths on Monday.

The 23-year-old man, identified only as Mohammed A, had said he was armed with explosives, but none were found there.

The Brazilian Jews were staying in Poland for Holocaust memorial events.

The three, all aged 16, were unharmed.

The Holiday Inn hotel was evacuated and searched.

Police said the hostage-taker was drunk.

Poland hosted thousands of Jews last week for the annual remembrance of Holocaust victims at the former Nazi German death camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau.
