Number of jobless in Russia in Apr reduces by over 3 %

MOSCOW, May 23 (Itar-Tass) - The total number of jobless in Russia in April, calculated according to the methods of the International Labour Organization, reduced by 3.3 percent in comparison with the previous month to 4.969 million people and amounted to 6.6 percent of the whole economically active population of the country, the economic news agency PRIME-TASS reports with reference to the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) on Friday.

The number of officially registered jobless in April 2008 reduced by 3.7 percent as against the previous month and amounted to 1.478 million people.

In comparison with the end of April of 2007, the total number of jobless in Russia increased by 4.2 percent, and officially registered jobless reduced by 10 percent.

The number of economically active population in Russia at the end of April 2008 was estimated by Rosstat at 75.1 million people or approximately 53 percent of the total number of the country’s population. A total of 53.9 percent of all employed in March 2008 worked in organizations not connected with small entrepreneurship.
