Brussels backs Slovakia to join eurozone

The eurozone looks set to embrace its 16th member after the European Commission recommended on Wednesday that Slovakia should be allowed to join the single currency area next January.

European Union governments are expected to endorse the Commission’s recommendation later this year in spite of reservations expressed by the European Central Bank.
