Philips, the Dutch electronics conglomerate, is to stop manufacturing televisions for sale in the North American market from September, underlining the savage competition as flat-panel TV prices continue to plunge.

Philips will instead license its brand name to Funai Electric, the Japanese maker of non-branded consumer electronics.

船井電機、フィリップスの北米液晶テレビ事業取得を正式発表

　船井電機は9日、オランダの電機大手フィリップスから北米の液晶テレビ事業を取得することで合意したと正式発表した。9月から「フィリップス」など2ブランドの使用権を譲り受け、フィリップス製品の販売を開始する。将来は船井が開発・生産する液晶テレビをブランド使用料を支払って同ブランドで発売。フィリップスが利用してきた量販店などの販路を継承する。

　フィリップスは8日夕（日本時間9日未明）、船井への液晶テレビの事業移管などに伴い2008年に約1億2500万ユーロの費用を計上すると発表した。
