Hong Kongers turn to stronger renminbi

Like many people from Hong Kong, Fanny Lau sometimes travels across the border to mainland China to shop and get a massage. Last Saturday, she added an extra item to her itinerary – opening a bank account.
After weeks of deliberation and research, Ms Lau joined a small but growing number of Hong Kong residents who are turning their Hong Kong dollar savings in local banks into renminbi deposits in mainland China.
