Russia could face an exodus of European Union managers and workers unless it reduces the onerous red tape required to obtain visas and work permits, the EU has warned in a letter to the Russian authorities.
The letter comes just two weeks after TNK-BP, the Anglo-Russian oil joint venture, halted work by 148 foreign employees in Russia amid difficulties in obtaining the necessary visas and permits for them. But one EU diplomat involved in drafting the letter said it had not been prompted by the TNK-BP case and was already under consideration before the oil venture’s problems surfaced.
