Sweden’s armed forces have expressed concern that any sale of TeliaSonera, the country’s state-controlled telecommunications company, to a foreign buyer could threaten national security.
TeliaSonera is 37 per cent owned by the Swedish government and 13.7 per cent by the Finnish state. The Swedish portion has been put on sale as part of the government’s SEK200bn ($33.8bn) privatisation drive.
