LONDON, May 2 (Itar-Tass) -- The sextet will make a new offer to Tehran in exchange for stopping research in a number of areas of the Iranian nuclear program, British Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs David Miliband said on Friday.

He described as positive and efficient the London meeting of the sextet and promised new steps in the settlement of the Iranian nuclear problem. The secretary added that Iran should meet the international community halfway.

It is necessary to develop additional positive incentives that have been offered to Iranian partners, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said prior to the sextet meeting.

“We are certain that we must fulfill the foreign ministerial agreement reached simultaneously with the UN Security Council resolution. This agreement implies additional positive incentives that have been offered to Iranian partners for assuring them of benefits of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the UN Security Council, suspended uranium enrichment research and negotiations,” he said.
