Unilateral independence for Kosovo could have a knock on effect on other Europe

Unilateral independence for Kosovo could have a knock on effect on other European countries where separatist sentiment is rife. Analysts with France Presse news agency say in a memo that Spain, where the separatists have long been pushing for the breakaway of Catalonia and the Basque Country has already said it will not recognize Kosovo independence. The Kosovo example could also reflect negatively on Scotland and Belgium and threatens to undermine the border inviolability principle which has prevailed since the end of WW2. Jean-Yves Camus with the Institute of International and Strategic Studies believes that this is exactly what the separatists are going for in their bid to redraw the European map along ethnic, language and cultural lines.
